What About Insurance?
This is something I really want women to know.
Some post-mastectomy reconstruction and restorative services may be eligible for insurance coverage.
Depending on your insurance plan and medical situation, coverage may sometimes include reconstruction-related services, prosthetic options and certain nipple or areola restoration services.
But every insurance policy is different.
Coverage can depend on things such as medical necessity, documentation, referrals, prior authorization, provider requirements and the specific benefits included in your plan.
So before assuming something is not covered, ask.
Call your insurance company.
Ask about your post-mastectomy reconstruction benefits.
Ask specifically about nipple and areola restoration.
Ask about prosthetic options.
Ask what documentation they require.
And keep copies of everything.
Sometimes the answer may be yes.
Sometimes it may be no.
Sometimes it may take a little work to get the answer.
But it is worth asking.
I am also working toward making the insurance side of these services easier to navigate so women aren’t left trying to figure everything out alone.
Coverage is never guaranteed, and benefits should always be confirmed directly with your individual insurance carrier before treatment.
Timing Matters
This part is important.
The skin needs time to heal.
A scar can look healed on the outside while changes are still happening underneath.
That is why an individual consultation — and medical clearance when appropriate — can be an important part of the process.
Sometimes the right answer is:
Not yet.
And that is okay.
Good restorative work is not about rushing.
It is about respecting the skin.
Knowing when to work.
And knowing when to wait.
For Me, This Work Goes Deeper Than Tattooing
My background is in pathology and histology.
I have spent more than 25 years working around tissue, disease processes, healing and the importance of proper infection control.
So when I entered the world of paramedical tattooing, it made sense to me.
This work brings together two parts of my life that I care deeply about:
Science and restoration.
I continue to train in scar and stretch-mark restoration, camouflage, 3D areola work and prosthetic nipple restoration because I want my clients to have options.
Real options.
And honest information.
If something isn’t appropriate for your skin, I’m going to tell you.
If you need more healing time, I’m going to tell you that too.
My job isn’t to talk you into a service.
My job is to help you understand your options so you can make the decision that feels right for you.
This October Means a Little More
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is about more than wearing pink.
It is about the women who have been diagnosed.
The women still going through treatment.
The survivors.
The families who stood beside them.
And the people we remember.
This year, Three Times The Glam | Walking for Hope is also participating in the breast cancer walk because I want Three Times The Glam to be connected to more than appointments.
Community matters to me.
Education matters to me.
And making restorative options more accessible to women after breast cancer is something I want to continue building toward.
This is a part of my business that has a much deeper purpose for me.
If You Are Considering Restoration After Breast Cancer
You do not have to know exactly what you want before reaching out.
You can simply have questions.
We can talk about where you are in your healing process.
What concerns you have.
What options may be available.
And whether now is even the right time.
No pressure.
No rushing.
Just information.
Because after everything you have already been through, you deserve to understand your choices.
Your body.
Your timing.
Your decision.
And when you are ready, I’m here to have that conversation.
